Investigative Analyst

Puerto Rico District, Hato Rey, PR The selectee of this position serves as an Investigative Analyst. You will be responsible for collecting and analyzing a variety of intelligence data, and processing, tracking and inputting warrants into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database.


As an Investigative Analyst at the GS-1805-7/9 level, some of your typical work assignments may include: Independently gathering, researching, and analyzing various types of data from federal, state, local, and public agencies and develop reports on a variety of investigative intelligence information to support ongoing investigations; Providing administrative support and assistance to USMS Criminal Investigators in accomplishing activities for their assigned warrant cases; Monitoring court orders to ensure that deadlines are met; and Maintaining the prisoner files and records.


Requirements

GS-07 TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-05 grade level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 grade level. (Must submit your SF-50 that shows Time-in-Grade eligibility and reflects your title, series, and grade. No award SF-50 will be accepted). You may qualify at the GS-1805-07 level, if you fulfill one of the following qualifications: A. Completion of a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in a field of study that demonstrates the competencies required by this position with either (1) A grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 based on a 4.0 scale; (2) A 3.5 GPA based on a 4.0 scale for all required courses completed in a qualifying major field of study at either the time of application or during the last two years of your undergraduate curriculum; (3) Class standing of upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or a major subdivision of the college; or, (4) Membership in a National Scholastic Honor Society certified by the Association of College Honor Societies, excluding freshman honor societies (MUST SUBMIT TRANSCRIPTS).

OR

B. One full year of graduate level education in an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in one of the following related fields: Criminal Justice, Homeland Security, Psychology, etc. The education must demonstrate the competencies necessary to do the work of the position (MUST SUBMIT TRANSCRIPTS).

OR

C. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service that demonstrates experience in 1) selecting, compiling, analyzing, and summarizing information; 2) identifying facts, considering their relevance to the issue, and arranging them in a logical and clear manner; 3) assessing information and determining whether additional research or review is needed; and 4) establishing and maintaining relationships with personnel at other agencies.

D. Combination of education and experience as listed above (MUST SUBMIT TRANSCRIPTS). GS-09 TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 grade level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 grade level. (Must submit your SF-50 that shows Time-in-Grade eligibility and reflects your title, series, and grade. No award SF-50 will be accepted). You may qualify at the GS-1805-09 level, if you fulfill one of the following qualifications: A. One year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 level of the Federal Service that included: 1) gathering and analyzing various types of data from Federal, state, local and public agencies; 2) monitoring, evaluating and coordinating a variety of warrants (i.e., for escaped prisoners, parole and probation, bond defaults, etc.); 3) assisting criminal investigators by coordinating investigative efforts; and 4) utilizing a variety of law enforcement related databases to obtain, monitor and update appropriate information for investigations, warrants, prisoner data, etc.

OR

B. Master's or equivalent graduate degree in an accredited or pre-accredited college or university; or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or possession of a LL.B. or J.D degree, if related. Graduate level education must demonstrate the competencies necessary to do the work of the position, examples of qualifying fields include Criminal Justice, Psychology, Homeland Security, etc. (MUST SUBMIT TRANSCRIPTS).

C. Combination of education and experience as listed above. (MUST SUBMIT TRANSCRIPTS). Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
