The Opportunity:

Reporting to Senior Regional Manager, Mechanical Reliability, the EMS Manager, Metallurgy provides technical support to ensure safe and environmentally sound operations with the greatest return on investment regarding quality, cost and production.  This position provides technical support to the 31 WestRock paper mills and 3 extrusion plants in the USA, Canada, Brazil and India.  Travel is required. 

How you will impact WestRock:

§  Support cultural improvement in safety, inclusion, and engagement by serving as a role model for WestRock Vision/Values/Behaviors.

§  Promote and follow Company and Mill safe work practices and procedures

§  Support Corrugated and Consumer mill goals and guidelines.

§  Maximize mill asset availability, efficiency, and predictability through implementation of reliability guidelines and action plans to improve results

§  Provide on-site materials engineering assistance during major mill outages.

§  Perform failure analysis on components to assist with root-cause problem elimination.

§  Provide quality assurance reviews on new/replacement equipment.

§  Develop material selection and inspection specifications for mill equipment.

§  Facilitate the transfer of Best Practices/Technology between the mills.

§  Analyze equipment failures that impact employee safety or equipment uptime.

§  Select appropriate materials and inspection practices for new equipment

§  Keep abreast of non-destructive testing methods and applications

 What you need to succeed:


§  Degree in metallurgical engineering or material science is required. Professional engineering license is desirable.

§  Minimum of 10 years of experience

§  Understand ASME, API, AWS, BLARBAC and NBIC Codes.

§  Experience within with paper industry preferred.

§  Computer skills in MS Office Suite.

§  Expertise in corrosion mechanisms and mitigation

§  Expertise in materials properties

§  Expertise in failure analysis


§  Adaptability to rapidly changing working environments and operational situations along with the ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects or tasks.

§  Must be willing to perform in an on-call environment, including weekends and occasional altered work schedules.

§  Must be willing to travel ~ 70% to support facilities

§  Provide direction and prioritize work for internal lab.


 Ability to communicate/coordinate with different levels and multiple departments within the organization. Strong written/verbal communication skills and internal customer focus.
